REFLECT
Looking Back On The UCD Process
Overview
Overall, this has been a great experience. We came into this project knowing little about User-Centered Design and knowing nothing about radio broadcasting and are coming out with a product that we feel could foster a more personal connection between radio hosts and listeners, and help radio adapt to the digital age. In the end, we learned and experienced the UCD process, explored radio broadcasting, and discovered how to be a successful team.
Project Reflection
When we started this project, we didn’t know if radio hosts were going to be a viable user group. We emailed dozens of radio stations hoping that we would get a positive response, and ended up getting lucky. If it wasn’t for that initial support, it is unlikely that INTUNE would have ever seen the light of day. We learned, that sometimes you have to take a chance and people will surprise you.
If we had more time, we would have interviewed listeners of radio to see what their experiences are, and how we can accommodate them through INTUNE. Using these findings, we would have fleshed out the listener side of the application. Given more time, we would have also sought out feedback from other radio stations throughout the process and continued to iterate on our designs.
Moving forward we would also like to to adapt the application to make it accessible to more diverse types of radio genres. In its current form, INTUNE is only tailored to popular stations with host to fan interaction, even though there are many other types of radio. For example, we would look at adapting INTUNE to the needs of public radio broadcasting and college radio stations.
Having spent nine weeks continuously reflecting on and revising our work, we learned that the design process is always iterative. Though we are thrilled with the final product, we know that INTUNE will always be a work in progress.
Team Reflection
This project would have never been realized if it wasn't for this brilliant and ambitious team. Every person had a unique set of skills that came together to make INTUNE possible.

Each and every member was incredibly dedicated to the project, meeting hours upon hours every week up to 12 days in a row. Short meetings lasted 2-3 hours, while longer meetings could span 8-9 hours. Every decision along every step of the way, including every word in every sentence of this portfolio, was a collaborative effort. Likewise, every design choice in INTUNE was determined using a democratic process.
We saw each other more than anybody else this quarter, kept each other on task, supported each other, and, in the end, managed not to kill each other. In between all the hard work, we still managed to have fun. We jammed out to music, became delirious with laughter, and shared conversation over dinner. We truly could not have imagined a better team to go on this journey with.
